From Hobby to HALO: Celebrating One Year of Natural Hair Care Love

One year ago, I officially registered HALO Premium Organic Hair Care as an LLC in the state of New Jersey — but the roots of this journey run much deeper.

As someone born in Trinidad and raised by a Guyanese mother, a natural lifestyle is all I’ve ever known. My love for natural hair care was planted early. I grew up watching my mom make coconut oil from scratch — no shortcuts, just knowledge passed down through generations. So when it came time to create HALO’s very first product, it only made sense that coconut oil would be one of the star ingredients in our flagship formula: The Foundation Hair Growth Oil.

My journey took a turn when I emigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. Like many, I gave in to the lure of a perm at 13 — something my mother warned me against. (And yes… she was right. My hair broke off badly! 😅) That experience brought me back to the basics. To the traditions. To the ingredients that nurtured my hair back to life.

In 2019, during quarantine, what started as a hobby quickly became a passion. I was stuck at home like many others, and needed something not just to pass time, but to pour purpose into. I started mixing oils, researching natural ingredients, and tracking what worked best for moisture, softness, shine, scalp health, and most especially — growth, as I was working to regrow my thinned-out edges after years of super tight braiding and hairstyles.

After 5 years of testing and using the oil myself, sharing batches with friends (male and female) who constantly asked for more — I knew I had something special and would "one day" offer it to the public. But it was my sister, Dre — owner of Dre’s Beauty Supply — who said, “Why wait for 'one day'? Why not today?” Her support (both emotional and financial!) gave me the push I needed. No more excuses. And HALO - Healthy and Lengthy Outcomes - was born.

Since then, I’ve:

• Established my website to make it easier for customers to access our story, blog, and shop

• Received incredible feedback from customers
  

• Attended and vended at multiple pop-up events

• Connected with fellow entrepreneurs

• Taken courses to improve my business and brand
  

• Continued to research and refine the products

It’s been a year of growth, learning, trial and triumph. And it’s just the beginning.
